Governor Makinde Slashes Salaries of Appointees by 50%, Partners CBN on Agriculture

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has directed that salaries of all senior political appointees in the state be slashed by 50 per cent with immediate effect.

He said this on Friday while addressing Labour leaders at the 2020 International Workers’ Day, an event held at the Nigeria Labour Congress Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan.

The governor noted that the pay cut would be channelled into the execution of developmental projects in the state.

Governor Makinde affirmed that his administration will not slash workers’ salaries on the excuse of the economic crisis occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The governor assured the labour leaders that salaries of workers will be paid as at when due and the date set aside for the payment of workers in Oyo state will not change.

Governor Makinde hinted that Oyo state is now in partnership with the Central of Nigeria, CBN, to cultivate 5 thousand hectares of land in the state.

He added that with the new cases of coronavirus recorded in Oyo state, plans are already underway to upgrade the facilities across the isolation centres of the state with the claim that contact tracing and mass testing is still in course.
