Governor Seyi Makinde’s Impactful Legacies by Abiodun Oluwaseun Laurel

Great leaders build strong institutions, leading to everlasting legacies. Congratulations to the people of Oyo State on this landmark achievement by the people’s Governor, His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde! The giant strides of GSM for the people of Oyo State in various sectors have earned him the title of ‘GOVERNOR OF LEGACIES.’

The recent signing into law of the Oyo State Project Monitoring and Performance Agency Bill 2024 further cement his status as a Legacy Governor; no wonder he is loved far and near in Nigeria.

Let us recall some of the everlasting legacies of GSM in Oyo State:

  • Legacy of Continuation: Unbiased completion of projects from previous administrations, except for fraudulently awarded ones.
  • Legacies on Education: Taking over LAUTECH from Osun State and upgrading EACOED to a university, an achievement unmatched by any Governor in Oyo State.
  • Legacies on Infrastructure: Constructing the highest number of roads in Oyo State, including Moniya-Iseyin, Oyo-Iseyin, Ogbomoso-Iseyin, Saki/Ogbooro, and the ongoing construction of the Circular Road.
  • Legacy on Welfare: Consistently paying salaries for 59 months consecutively and effectively managing the state economy during and after COVID-19.
  • Legacies on Innovation: Introducing ease of getting C-of-O and digitizing the Pacesetter Transport Scheme via the Omituntun Card, showcasing GSM’s advocacy for creativity and innovation.
  • Legacies of Investment: Securing a $100 million investment with Shell, making Oyo State an envy of many, and attracting people and foreign investment due to its rapid growth and ease of business.

Today, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, has added another legacy to his portfolio by signing the Project Performance Agency bill into law, allowing judicious spending of Oyo state money so that the people can get value for the money spent by the Government.

Once again, I congratulate the good people of Oyo State on this achievement and the GOVERNOR OF LEGACIES, GSM, on this everlasting achievement that will benefit all. I also congratulate the pioneer head of the agency, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, who I trust to do a fantastic job leading the agency.
I look forward to the team’s progress and urge all relevant stakeholders to come together to make our state more excellent for all.
