Head of Hausa, Sarki Sasa Suspended for Disrespecting Olubadan

The Hausa community in Oyo State has suspended Haruna Maiyasin, also known as Sarki Sasa, for his alleged insubordination and disrespect towards the Olubadan of Ibadanland. The decision was made during a meeting held by the Seriki Hausawa of Ibadanland, Alhaji Ali Zungeru, at his palace in Ibadan North West Local Government Area.

Sarki Sasa was accused of unlawfully conferring chieftaincy titles on individuals without consulting the Sarki Hausawa of Ibadanland. This action goes against the authority of the Olubadan, who had previously emphasized that only the Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland holds recognition as the head of the Hausa community in the ancient metropolis.

The suspension of Sarki Sasa was deemed necessary to prevent any potential crisis in the area. Zungeru highlighted that Maiyasin’s appointment as District Head was meant to maintain peace, sanity, and justice among the Hausa community in Sasa area. However, his recent actions, such as the unlawful installation of chiefs without consulting the Seriki Hausawa of Ibadanland, have threatened the existing peace in the state.

Zungeru further expressed concern over a plan to remove other appointees, including Seriki Hausawa in Akinyele and Ado Sule, as well as Chairman of the Trailer, Yaro Abubakar. These actions, if not addressed by the relevant authorities, could lead to mayhem in the area. It should be noted that Maiyasin is an appointee of Zungeru and does not have the authority to remove another appointee from office.

To avoid any potential clashes within and between communities, Zungeru, as the Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland, along with the Arewa traditional institutions, have decided to suspend Maiyasin’s appointment as the District Head of the Hausa community in Sasa area. This suspension will remain in effect until a decision is reached by the entire Arewa Community Council in Ibadan.
