Ibadan North Bye-election: PDP Takes Early Lead as Vote Counting Begins

The counting of votes in the ongoing Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election has commenced, with early results showing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a strong lead over its closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

From the results emerging across several wards and polling units, the PDP is maintaining a comfortable margin, with significant support in both urban and semi-urban voting centres.

At Ward 1, Unit 10, the PDP secured 89 votes against the APC’s 20. Similarly, at the University of Ibadan’s Tedder Hall (NW8), the PDP polled 28 votes, while the APC recorded 9, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) managing 2 votes. Three ballots were declared void out of the 42 votes cast.

In Ward 5, Unit 1, the PDP scored 44 votes compared to the APC’s 13, while in Ward 2, Unit 14, the PDP again led with 61 votes against the APC’s 30.

The trend continued across other polling units:

  • Ward 4, Unit 33: PDP – 8, APC – 1
  • Ward 8, Unit 009: PDP – 48, APC – 14
  • Ward 4, Polling Unit 050 (Registered voters: 46): PDP – 12, APC – 0
  • Ward 7, Unit 07: PDP – 100, APC – 37
  • Unit 08: PDP – 96, APC – 48
  • Unit 16: PDP – 36, APC – 5
  • Unit 17: PDP – 29, APC – 10
  • Akingbola Centre: PDP – 109, APC – 53

At Yemetu, Ward 3, Unit 19, the PDP polled 82 votes against the APC’s 30.

The Polytechnic Ibadan also delivered strong numbers for the PDP:

  • Unit 1: PDP – 49, APC – 8
  • Unit 2: PDP – 57, APC – 7
  • Unit 3: PDP – 6, APC – 0
  • Unit 4: PDP – 24, APC – 6
  • Unit 5: PDP – 4, APC – 2

While official collation is still ongoing, the PDP appears to be consolidating its lead across multiple wards.

Electoral officers continue to compile results from other units, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to make an official announcement once counting and collation are completed.
