Ibadan Poly Part-Time Students Embark on Protest, Lament Denial of Lectures, Shortage of Staff, Others

Barely a week after the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, (ASUP) chapter of The Polytechnic, Ibadan withdrew their service from the Continuous Examination Centre, the part-time students of the institution have staged a protest over the shortage of staff, denial of lectures and other irregularities.

As early as 07:00am, the central administration complex’s gate of the citadel of learning was locked and hung with placards of different inscriptions by the part-time students.

In his remark, the part-time students’ representative, Comr. Adifase Olugbenro, narrated that all part-time students have been denied lectures since December 12th, 2022.

According to him, “We have resumed since December 12th, 2022 and we are yet to receive a single lecture. Meanwhile, our examination is coming up in the month of May. How is that possible?”

He stated that the management has been treating part-time students as third class citizens on campus, adding that all students deserve equal treatment.

“We have filed complaints several times, management keeps giving us excuses,” Adifase Olugbenro added.

Narrating the Students’ Union effort, the SUG President, Comrade Oloyede Okiki, said that the union is already working on it, noting that the management had fixed a meeting later in the day for dialogue.

Meanwhile, the part-time students were also agitating about portal failure, and unreleased results of academic exercises.
