The Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde will be handing over the affairs of the state to his new deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal as he proceeds on a three-week vacation.
The lawyer cum politician, who recently replaced Engr. Raufu Olaniyan, will be acting governor till Makinde returns from the vacation, which starts today (Thursday) and will run till September 2, 2022.
It was gathered that the governor had on Wednesday wrote to the State House of Assembly to intimate the lawmakers of the development.
This was however, not the case in the more than three years Olaniyan served with Makinde.
Meanwhile, Makinde has informed the House of Assembly via a letter to notify them of the development.
“By a declaration transmitted under Section 190 (1) of the Constitution to the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly (OYHA) today 10th August 2022.
“The Deputy Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal will be Acting Governor during the period”, the governor reportedly stated.
Meanwhile, Makinde would be the first governor to transmit power to his deputy in recent times.
