Ibadan Poly Rector, 9 Others Jostle to Succeed Salami as Tech-U VC

Professor Abubakre Oladiran Kamardeen, the Rector, Ibadan Poly and nine others have joined the succession race of who becomes the next Vice-Chancellor of the First Technical University, Ibadan; just as the tenure of the pioneer VC, Prof. Ayobami Salami is running to an end.

Professor Ayobami Salami’s tenure will end on May 8, 2022.

Meanwhile, the Professors that have notified the university’s council of their interest are: Professors Abubakre Oladiran Kamardeen, Ibadan Poly Rector, Prof. Adebiyi Kazeem Adekunle, Ajayi Sunday Adesola, Akinyemi Olukayode Dewunmi, Amu Olugbenga Oludolapo, Jekayinfa Simeon Olatayo and Ogunkunle Adepoju Tunde J.

Others are: Professors Oguntunde Philip Gbenro, Oladipo Samuel Ekundayo and Oni Olatunde Michael.

According to a statement released by the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, Akeem Lasisi, the process for the appointment of the new VC has reached the peak.

He said that the Visitor to the University, ‘Seyi Makinde; the Council, Senate, Management, staff and students are hoping for the emergence of another capable hands to take over from Salami, and propel Tech-U beyond the acclaimed heights he has taken it to.

Meanwhile, all is now set for the maiden convocation of the university, holding on Saturday March 5, 2022.

While foremost scholar and administrator, Emeritus Professor Julius Okojie, will deliver the Convocation Lecture, five accomplished Nigerians – Chief Tunde J. Afolabi MFR, Chief Adebayo Akande, Chief Ammal Pepple, Professor Toyin Falola and Mr Segun Agbaje, who is the Managing Director of GTBank – will be awarded honorary doctoral degrees.

The Convocation Play – Love’s Unlike Lading, by iconic Professor Femi Osofisan, and directed by Tunji Azeez, will be staged on Friday, May 4, 2023, at Tech-U’s main campus on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan.
