Oyo-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Adeniyi Akintola has called on people living in the Southwestern part of Nigeria, especially Igangan in Ibarapa North local government of Oyo state, to defend themselves against external attacks as he said self-defence is allowed under the laws and constitution of the country.
Akintola who is a former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly said this in a statement released earlier today to commiserate with the people and the leadership of the Igangan community, Ibarapa North local government and the state in general for the loss of irreplaceable lives and valuable properties.
The attacks according to him are becoming one too many and should be addressed by the authorities immediately to avert the resort to self-help in a retaliatory fashion which will lead to a total breakdown of law and order.
He went further to say that in case of attacks by aggressors, people should also defend themselves by forming vigilante groups to police their areas at night and during the day.
Akintola said, “My People, defend yourself. Let me call on all Yoruba living in the South West to defend themselves against any attack from any quarter and in any form.
“Form vigilante groups in every village, hamlet, town, city and community to police your areas at night and during the day.
“Use all available weapons, instruments and communication gadgets to monitor, alert and defend yourself individually and collectively. Remember, self-preservation is the first law of nature and self-defence is allowed under our laws and constitution.”
