Insecurity: Oyo NSCDC Inaugurates 74 Female Armed Officers as Special Squad, Charges Them to Promote Peace

The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi has charged female officers of the corps to enhance peace with their skills and weapons, other than cresting more troubles for the country.

He gave the advice on Tuesday at the passing out parade of the 74 female armed squad in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Ably represented by the Assistant Commandant General of the Corps, Shem Obafaiye, he further stated that Nigeria is in a critical time where it needs an Amazon, a replica of the female soldiers who fought the Dahomey war in those days.

He noted that the Civil Defence officers have the responsibility of handling their weapons with civility, and follow the rules of engagement.

The NSCDC boss added that much is expected of the officers in protecting the interest of the people, because so much has been invested in them.

“The commandant has asked me to appreciate you, that he’s hoping so much in you. To whom much is given, much is expected, this time of general insecurity in the country in diverse ways, in this time of gender violence in the country, in various ways, we need security to battle the situations as they arise. Therefore the commandant general has directed me to tell you that we’ve invested in you and we expect much from you.

“However, he has asked me to tell you that you are coming into this country to teach the general populace, handle weapons with civility, you know the rules of engagement, carrying a weapon doesn’t mean you should go out there and cause trouble if maintaining peace at home in the country belongs to women, then you should know that what you just enrolled for now is the further enhancement of peace in the country while wishing you the best, I’m expecting high dividends from you, I wish you God guidance and best of luck in life,” he said.

He urged citizens to synergise with security agencies in the state especially NSCDC, warning criminals in the state to vacate the territory or face the wrath of the law.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Governor, “Seyi Makinde has congratulated the Female Armed Squad for going against all odds to reach the stage.

The governor who was represented by his Deputy Chief of staff, Hon Majeed Mogbonjubola also promised his unflinching support for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps with whatever it takes to nip in the bud criminal activities across the state.

“So much has been invested in you and I was carried away with all your parades and actions, and I look at it that what a man can do, women are getting to do it better, at this critical time of insecurity in the nation, not exempting Oyo State, we need this squad like never before, we need them like yesterday, what they paraded here today is bravery and I can say Oyo State is proud of you and I know Nigeria will be proud of you, I was told that the head of the squad that came from Abuja has to take one of you back to Abuja with her, and that’s worth emulating. I say congratulations to NSCDC, congratulations to Nigeria.
