Sequel to a report by newsmen on the rate of criminal activities being masterminded by motorcyclists and tricycle operators in Oyo State, the Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle And Motorcycle, Owners, Repairs And Riders Association of Nigeria, ACOMORON, has said that none of its members is involved in the present security challenges facing the State.
The Chairman of the Association, Com. Olugbode Solomon who made this known on Monday while briefing Journalists on the need to meet with the state government to synergize and strategize in combating crime in the state, added that some bad elements, not registered cyclists, are using motorcycles to perpetrate crime in the state.
He said, “I want to call on relevant agents, the Ministry of Transportation, Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, Security Agencies and other Stakeholders in Oyo State to let us synergize to strategize and sanitize Okada/Tricycle Operation in the State.
“The issue of Registration and Data Collection of each rider is a must at this time when Okada and Tricycle Operation is becoming porous and treat to security.”
Solomon added that both riders and the passengers are victims of the hoodlums using motorcycles for criminal acts.
He said the association wants an end to it adding that many of their parks have been hijacked forcefully despite court judgement and legal documents.
“The members of ACOMORAN are well informed and ready to cooperate with the government but many of our parks have been forcefully and violently hijacked by the motorist, both in the past and now.
“Our tickets and uniforms were torn in some parts of the State. Our executives who mediated were harassed. We thought the injustice will be corrected under the present Park Management System (PMS) led by Alh. Mukaila Lamidi (aka Auxiliary) but the opposite is the case as it is old wine in a new bottle.
“Despite court judgement and our legal documents, the motorist and other unruly guys have violently taken over Okada & tricycle parks in the name of PMS. We cannot continue to keep quiet.”
He urged the government to intervene noting that motorcyclists are law-abiding citizens of the state.
“As a law-abiding organization who appreciate the rapid progress development embarked upon by His Excellency, Gov. Seyi Makinde, we are prepared and ready to cooperate with the government and we believe together we can have a safer and peaceful society in Oyo State,” he concluded.
