JAMB Sets 18-Year Minimum Age for University Admission from 2025

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 16-year-old candidates will only be considered for admission into tertiary institutions for the 2024 academic year.

This was disclosed during a briefing on the 2024 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions/NELFUND on Thursday.

However, JAMB stated that candidates under 18 years old would not be considered for admission into tertiary institutions in subsequent academic years.

According to the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, the federal government is banning under-18 admissions into tertiary institutions because the enrolment of underage candidates is damaging the university and education system.
