Kabiyesi Didn’t Die of COVID-19, to be Buried by 4pm – Publicity Director

The remains of Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji has arrived at the Popo Yemoja palace from the University College Hospital, Ibadan, for final rites.

Speaking with newsmen at the palace earlier today, the Palace’s Director of Media and Publicity, Adeola Oloko, said that Olubadan died around 1am today at UCH after a brief illness.

Oloko said contrary rumours being bandied about, the monarch didn’t die of Covid-19 related illness. He further noted that the monarch would be buried by 4pm today according to Muslim rites.

His words: “Kabiyesi didn’t die of COVID-19. If he had died of COVID-19, we wouldn’t all be here today to bury him freely as we are. Some of us would probably be in isolation since we have had contact with him during the illness.

“He was in a private hospital for about 5 days but around 9pm yesterday, his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to UCH where he died after 4 hours.”

Meanwhile, sympathisers have besieged the palace of the Olubadan, to mourn the monarch, who joined his ancestors at the age of 93.

Also, clerics were already at the palace for prayers on the remains of the Monarch.
