LG Election: Embrace Peace and Shun Violence, Makinde Calls on Politicians

Ahead of the Local government poll scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 22nd in Oyo state, the state governor; Engr Seyi Makinde has called on electorates, politicians, stakeholders and the entire residents in the state to eschew violence and embrace peace and coordination during the poll.

Governor Makinde stated this in Ogbomosho during the official presentation of party flags to candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the poll at their campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party.

A statement by Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, revealed that the governor who spoke at a rally held in Oja-Igbo, Ogbomoso, stated that electing the right people into local government will deepen the development already activated by his administration at the state level.

Makinde subsequently enjoined politicians to make election peaceful and prayed that election will not claim the life of anybody.

The governor said: “Your vote is what will make the projects we are doing in the state spread to the local government level. All the campaigns you held lately have been peaceful.

So, I want to urge you to make the election peaceful as well and I pray that the forthcoming election will not claim the life of anyone.

“From Ibadan to Ogbomoso, we spent over two hours on the federal road, but the state government has constructed a road from Ibadan to Iseyin, which is about 40 minutes. I want to assure you again that the state government will construct another road from Iseyin to Ogbomoso, which will also amount to a 40-minute drive.

“Very soon, this administration will clock two years. With all the challenges we have been able to surmount through the grace of God, we cannot but be grateful to Him. All our candidates in Ogbomosoland, you need to vote for them.”

He consequently called on electorates to cast their votes for the standard-bearers of PDP, saying that the Party will not disappoint the electorates.

The rally had in attendance the Chairman, Oyo State Governor’s Advisory Committee, Senator Hosea Agboola; commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Chairmen of the parastatal and the leadership of the party at the State Working Committee level.
