Oyo state governor; Engr. Seyi Makinde has approved the construction of solar energy Mini-grid at selected four local governments of the state.
Governor Makinde revealed this at the 3rd stakeholders meeting aimed at discussing the budget performance and his administration’s roadmap to development.
The mini-grids are being constructed to provide power to communities without electricity.
According to him, “I’m happy to inform you that the contracts have been awarded for the installation of mini-grid energy projects in Ogbomosho South, Atiba, Ona Ara and Iwajowa Local government areas.”
Governor Makinde further explained that the projects in the state were been executed through the alternative project funding approach which places the burden of the construction of such projects on the contractors.
“As at the beginning of the second half of the year 292, the Oyo state budget performance stood at 60% when we came in, we analyzed the previous budget, they never surpassed the 35% point. We set a very high standard for ourselves. Our target is to raise it to 75% before the year runs to an end as we aspire for improved revenue performance. We continue to use the alternative project funding approach (APFA) for capital project execution.”
He also announced that his administration has approved the construction of fire stations and the purchase of chemicals to enhance the production of portable water in the state.
“In addition, almost 400 million was spent on the purchase of 1194 metric tonnes of Alumni sulphate to boost the production of portable water in the state.”
“Let me also mention that we have also awarded a contract for the construction of two permanent fire stations at Atiba and Ibarapa Central Local Government Area,” he stated.
