The Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, along with other government officials, on Thursday, met with Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, to discuss the revalidation of licenses for mining companies and the security challenges faced by operators. The meeting took place in Abuja and aimed to address these pressing issues within the mining sector.
During the meeting, Alake emphasized the federal government’s commitment to sanitizing mining operations in Nigeria and ensuring the safety of lives, properties, and the operating environment. He acknowledged the significant impact that security breaches have had on the industry and expressed the government’s determination to resolve these challenges promptly.
“We are actively working towards sanitizing mining operations in Nigeria to guarantee the adequate security of lives, properties, and the overall operating environment,” stated Alake. “The extensive discussions held during this meeting have focused on addressing the devastation caused by security breaches. We are committed to achieving rapid development within the mining sector in the shortest possible time.”

By convening this meeting, Governor Makinde, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Umar Bago of Kwara, and Niger have demonstrated their collective efforts to tackle the licensing issues and security concerns that have hindered the growth and progress of the mining industry.
