Makinde to Host 2025 PDP National Convention in Ibadan

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has selected Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, as the venue for its 2025 Elective National Convention, scheduled to hold from Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November 2025, with Governor Seyi Makinde as the chief host.

The decision was announced in a communiqué issued at the end of the 101st meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), held on Thursday, 24th July 2025, in Abuja.

The communique, signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, highlighted the NEC’s satisfaction with the resolution of internal contentions, underscoring the PDP’s commitment to democratic principles, dialogue, and unity. The party described itself as a “strong, united, cohesive, stable, and focused” opposition, poised to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and lead efforts to “rescue” Nigeria from what it termed the APC’s “catastrophic misrule.”

The NEC approved the schedule and timetable for the 2025 Elective National Convention, where the next set of national officers will be elected. The choice of Ibadan reflects confidence in Oyo State’s organizational capacity and infrastructure to host the significant event. The NEC directed National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the convention’s details, in compliance with Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, and Part 2(12) of the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022.
