Makinde’s Wife Commissions Boreholes in Ibadan, Charges Beneficiaries to Imbibe Good Maintenance Culture

Wife of the Oyo State governor, Mrs. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde on Wednesday commissioned borehole projects for the use of residents of Mapo and Bode areas of Ibadan Southwest Local Government area of the state.

The boreholes were built by the Oyo State government, in collaboration with Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde Team (TOMT), Seyi Makinde Touching Lives (SMTL), and Omituntun For Life Foundation.

The projects which are located at Mapo (Ibadan Southwest Constituency 1) and Bode (Ibadan South West Constituency 2) will see to the water needs of the areas.

Commissioning the projects on Wednesday, Mrs. Makinde stated that the water project would reduce the burden of scouting for water.

She appreciated the support groups for their benevolence and support to the government. She charged the community to put the boreholes to effective use and proper management to ensure longevity.

She stated: “As we all know, water is life. This will bring life to the people of these areas, as they won’t have to buy water anymore. They now have access to treated water. These water projects will also be beneficial to them as they will help them during dry seasons to reduce the stress of struggling to get water. It will help to provide quality access to the consumption of potable water in communities.

“We however urged the communities to cultivate a good maintenance culture so that they will benefit from it for the long term, and when it develops a fault, they can call us to help them out”, she added.

Also addressing the gathering, the Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Prof. Dahud Sangodoyin stated that the project is in line with the vision of the state governor, who is very passionate about the welfare of the people and wants the best for the people

His words: “One of the focuses of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) in Nigeria and around the world is the provision of water. The governor is touching lives by providing boreholes for the people of Ibadan southeast, and we will do more for the people.

“People should expect more of these projects in the expansion of the economy, health, education, security, and well-being of the people”, he added.

He, therefore, charged the beneficiaries to ensure sanity and cleanliness around the water facility.
