New Oyo REC Assumes Office, Vows to Conduct Free, Fair Elections

Dr Adeniran Tella has on Tuesday commenced his duties as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State.

Tella has pledged to hold elections that are free, fair, credible, transparent, and acceptable in 2023.

Reports have it that Tella was received by the commission’s administrative secretary, Alhaji Abiodun Amosun, management staff and all the electoral officers in the 33 local government areas of the state.

He gave the state’s personnel the order to prepare for their upcoming work and to organise a successful election.

The REC further sought the cooperation of every staff member of INEC in the state, emphasising that the job was a collective one, and needs the contributions of everyone.

Tella, who was transferred to Oyo from Ekiti, said he and other staff members of the commission in Ekiti were able to record success in the last governorship election, because they worked as a team, and exhibited decency, dedication and transparency.

He said that the same feat would be repeated in Oyo State while assuring that the 2023 elections would be conducted in a very good manner.

Tella added that the commission had engaged in a lot of activities that would enhance the success of the forthcoming elections.

“For instance, we started with the expansion of voters’ access to polling units; then, the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), followed by claims and objections.

“Our staff have been engaged in training and capacity building, in line with the international best practices. This will now allow them to even be more proactive on the exercise,” he said.

REC promised that the commission, under his watch, would relate with all relevant stakeholders to have a smooth running in the conduct of the 2023 elections in the state.

“It is an assurance that we are going to conduct elections that will be adjudged as free, fair, credible, acceptable and transparent with all the measures put in place,” he added.

In the meantime, the administrative secretary who responded on behalf of the management and staff pledged complete allegiance and cooperation to the new REC.

Assuring the new REC that he would love working with them, Amosun claimed that every state-based staff member of the commission is diligent and committed to their jobs.

Amosun said that all staff members of the commission in the state are hardworking and dedicated to their duties, assuring that the new REC would enjoy working with them.
