The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has laid siege at the entrance of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), demanding that the company reinstate and pay the minimum wage to over three thousand employees who were recently sacked.

The Labour Union in the state, led by its Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martin, stormed the IBEDC office this morning to press home the demands of the sacked employees.

Comrade Martin condemned the actions of outsourcing agents who have refused to pay the minimum wage to their employees and have been making unexplained deductions from their salaries.

He appealed to the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and other stakeholders to intervene and address the plight of the sacked employees. He warned that allowing the dismissal of three thousand workers could pose a security threat to the state.

Comrade Martin also urged the management of IBEDC to engage in dialogue and resolve the issues amicably before the situation escalates into a full-blown crisis.

The protesters blocked the road from Challenge to Dugbe, preventing motorists from using the route.

The NLC presented seven key demands, which include:

1. Implementation of the new minimum wage.
2. Prompt payment of RSA backlogs.
3. Regularization of outsourced staff.
4. An end to the denial of union membership for staff.
5. Provision of adequate and standard healthcare services.
6. Payment of all outstanding allowances
7. ⁠Compensations.
