Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II Burial

The late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, will be laid to rest today, Friday, March 15, 2024, in his Aliiwo ancestral home in Ibadan, Oyo State. The late Oyo monarch passed away at the age of 81 on Thursday evening at the University College Hospital in Ibadan after a brief illness.

In a statement released in Ibadan by the late monarch’s younger brother, Senator Kola Balogun, announced that Oba Balogun’s burial will take place at his Aliiwo ancestral home at 4 pm today following Islamic customs. He further mentioned that the Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has been informally informed last night over the phone and will be formally notified this morning.

You will recall that just 72 hours ago, the late monarch celebrated his second anniversary. At the age of 81, but he was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after experiencing slight malaria symptoms following a day of good health on Monday when he received well-wishers for his second anniversary.

Oba Lekan Balogun was a British-trained PhD holder, a former university lecturer, a former Shell British Petroleum management staff member, a former Nigeria People’s Party governorship candidate, a former Senator, and a successful businessman.
