Security operatives in Ibadan have arrested and impounded five cows found being illegally herded along the Molete expressway, in violation of Oyo State’s open-grazing regulations.
The action took place during a broader enforcement exercise carried out by the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), which also targeted illegal street trading across Challenge, Gate, and Molete areas.
According to reports, the cows were seized by officers on duty after they were spotted roaming the expressway, posing risks to traffic and public safety. The arrest of the animals formed part of the state government’s ongoing crackdown on open grazing.
During the operation at Challenge, suspected miscreants attempted to disrupt the exercise and obstruct officials. However, security personnel swiftly intervened, dispersing the crowd and restoring order without any casualties.
The enforcement team was led by the Chairman of the State Environmental Task Force, retired DCP Francis Ojomo, alongside the Chief of Staff to the OYRLEA Chairperson, Iyabode Akinbode.
In addition to the impounded cows, four individuals were arrested and arraigned in court for obstructing law enforcement officers and violating environmental regulations.
Authorities have reiterated that the ban on open grazing and illegal street trading remains in full force, emphasizing that enforcement efforts will continue without compromise.
