Oyo Amotekun Says It Handled 40 Criminal Cases Since Inauguration, Debunks Gun Duel With Police

The Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has said it has handled about 40 criminal cases since its inauguration in November 2020 and all the suspected criminal elements arrested in the process were handed over to the police.

The Commandant of the Oyo Amotekun corps, Colonel Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.) disclosed this on Monday during a chat with newsmen in his office at the Oyo state government secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

According to the Amotekun commandant, the Oyo state security network agency is aware of various insecurity challenges noting that its operatives are ever ready to combat crime and criminality in the state.

Colonel Olayanju, however, debunked reports flying around that an Amotekun operative, Ogundele Ibrahim shot at one Yekini Fatai a constable attached to Ojongbodu Police Station in Oyo town.

The Commandant noted that the Amotekun operative, Ogundele Ibrahim discharged accidentally and hit the Community police officer on the thigh, stressing that the police constable, Yekini Fatai was rushed to the General Hospital in Oyo town where he got adequate treatment and has also been discharged.

He, however, maintained that the Amotekun operative who discharged accidentally is currently undergoing a preliminary investigation in Oyo town after which he will be brought over to the police CID at Iyaganku in Ibadan for proper investigation and show to the world that Amotekun has nothing to hide in the incident as alleged by some individuals who wanted to tarnish the image of the security network agency.

He, therefore, implored media outfits to always make their findings before rushing to the press and misinform citizens of the state.
