Oyo Assembly Calls for Public-Private Partnership in Constructing Public Parking Lot

The Oyo State House of Assembly has admonished the state governor; Engr. Seyi Makinde to explore the opportunity embedded in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for the construction of public parking lots across the state to stem the problems associated with its relative lack in the state.

The state house made this call in a report presented by the House Committee on Investment Monitoring and State Economic Planning after interfacing with officials of Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency on the provision of parking lots in public places on PPP initiative.

The report, which was read by the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon Ademola Popoola representing Ibadan South East 2, appealed to the Oyo State Government to come up with a strategic arrangement that will enable individuals and corporate bodies to invest in the construction of parking lots in public places in the State.

The report blamed the traffic gridlock in some parts of the state on the absence of parking space in these areas and noted that utilizing PPP for the construction of such will help stem such problems associated with it.

It also recommended that the State House of Assembly should constitute a Joint Committee which will work with the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency and other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to design a plan of action on the provision of public parking lots through PPP.

The state House concluded that further deliberations would be done on the recommendations calling for the use of PPP in constructing public parks.
