In its bid to ensure public participation and reduce voter apathy, the Oyo State Government has assured residents of Ido Local Government Area that all measures to safeguard the lives and properties of voters will be put in place as they head to the polls for the rescheduled Council election on Wednesday, 26th May 2021.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Hon. Tallest Innocent revealed this in a statement on Monday.
The statement in part: “As Residents of Ido Local Government head to the polls to put the icing on the cake on Wednesday, 26th May, our resolve to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election is uncompromising. The government will take all necessary measures to safeguard the life of every resident heading to the polls to exercise their franchise.”
“Security of lives and properties of the people of Oyo state remains a paramount interest of the government and all necessary measures will be put in place to ensure that no life is lost during the process. The election has so far been peaceful, save infractions in some places which were immediately addressed by the appropriate authorities.”
“This is to reassure all residents of Ido Local Government Area, that OYSIEC is fully capable of completing the process it has started and would perform creditably well come Wednesday, 26th May 2021. The disposition of OYSIEC in this election is highly commendable. They have contributed their part in entrenching democracy at the grassroots by conducting an election reflecting the opinion of the electorates.”
“Voters from Ido local government are urged to conduct themselves in an orderly manner with strict observance of COVID-19 guidelines while heading to the polls to elect chairman and ward councilors in the state. “
The government applauded the security agencies for performing creditably on the elections conducted so far in 32 local governments in the state, urging them not to relent in their efforts.
“Let me frankly appreciate the sterling efforts of all the security agencies in the state, your diligence in discharging your professional duties has afforded electoral umpires, candidates, and electorates, the enabling environment for a smooth exercise.”
Recall that OYSIEC rescheduled the elections for Ido Local Government due to the omission of the Zenith Labor Party’s logo from the ballot paper.
