Oyo Govt Sets To Resuscitate Public Health Laboratory To Tackle Lassa Fever, Coronavirus

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists Of Nigeria (AMLSM) Oyo State Chapter, on Wednesday, urged the Oyo State Government to resuscitate the Public Health Laboratory at Ring-road, Ibadan which has been moribund for a while.

Speaking through its Chairman, Mr. Akinbola Idowu, during a conference organized by the association in Ibadan, with the theme; Medical Laboratory Science and Modern Healthcare: The Center and the Fulcrum, the association called for the Resuscitation of the Public Health Laboratory so as to effectively diagnose and treat anyone with Lassa Fever or Coronavirus.

He explained that Medical Laboratory Science is important in the discharge of qualitative and effective healthcare services in the modern world.

In his remark, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bashir Bello who was represented by Dr. Taiwo Oladeji, disclosed that plans are already underway to ensure that the Public Health Laboratory at Ring-road, Ibadan, become functional.
The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in mainland China has risen to 490 after more deaths were reported in Hubei province.
