Oyo Lawmaker Seeks Rehabilitation of Bridge Connecting Imini to Ilora

Oyo lawmaker, Hon Seyi Adisa, representing Afijio State Constituency has appealed to the state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde to urgently help to rehabilitate collapsed Odo-Aro bridge in his constituency.

The bridge which links Imini and Ilora Communities in Afijio Local Government reportedly collapsed following a heavy downpour last month.

Hon Adisa made the appeal today, while presenting it as a matter of urgent public importance, before the plenary.

The Afijio lawmaker urged the governor to direct the Oyo State Ministry of Works and Transport to commence rehabilitation work on the Odo-Aro bridge or at least put some palliative measures in place to ease the pains inflicted on the people as a result of the collapse.

His words: “The Imini community in Afijio Local Government of the state has been disconnected from Ilora and the rest of Afijio due to the collapse of the Odo – Aro Bridge. This unfortunate incident occurred after a heavy downpour on Monday 5th September 2022.

“The major socio-economic activity of our people is agriculture and the development has continued to hinder farmers’ movement to their farms and the markets. Students are also unable to access their schools as a result of the collapsed bridge.

“Concerned that this bridge is the only route which links Imini town and Ilora and by extension some other parts of the local government area and it is the only access road for farmers and traders. This collapse has inflicted so much untold hardship on the route users.

“Hence, the need for state government while planning on the immediate reconstruction of the damaged bridge to put palliative measures in place to alleviate the suffering of the people plying the route”, Hon Seyi Adisa said.

Responding, the House resolved to call on the leadership of Afijio Local Government to equally put some palliative measures in place and equally see to the repair of the road leading to the collapsed Odo-Aro bridge which is said to be in a deplorable state.
