Oyo Muslims Stage Protest in Ibadan To Support Palestine

Several Muslim groups in Oyo State including the Oyo State Muslim Community, Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, (MSSN), National Council of Muslim Youths Organizations, NACOMYO), The Muslim Congress, TMC, and Organization of Tadhamunul Muslimeen
(OTM), have staged a protest to express their support for Palestine and condemn the Israeli government for the recent havoc wreaked on Palestinians.

The protestors carried placards with inscriptions like “Israel is a terrorist state”, “Free Palestine, Stop the Killing”, “This is not conflict, it’s genocide “, “Free Palestine, Resist Israel apartheid” at the protest in front of Alade Event Center, Sanyo, Ibadan today after a solidarity conference earlier.

During the conference with the theme: “Al-Aqsah Invasion: The Ummah and the Signals”, the former Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Professor Mojeed Alabi called on governments worldwide to speak up and condemn the injustice being perpetrated against the people of Palestine by Israel.

The former speaker stated that the current situation in Palestine is a grave injustice against humanity and called on nations worldwide to pressure Israel to stop its attacks on Palestine.

He also called on individuals around the world to pressure their governments to speak up now against the atrocities being committed by Israel now and anywhere else in the future.

“The issue of crisis in Arab and Jews states in Palestine has become something that is troubling the whole world.”

“Whatever happens in any part of the world has the tendency of affecting all other parts of the world, the people in the middle east who are facing the heat are human beings.”

” As a member of United Nations that subscribes to the idea of human rights, we should try as much as possible as a nation to uphold human rights for all manner of people,” Professor Alabi stated.

He also said that the current crisis in Palestine was not a religious issue and added that Palestinian Christians were also facing the same inhumane treatment Palestinian Muslims face from Israel.

The Political Science Professor called for Nigerians to boycott Israel and Israeli products to express displeasure at the current injustice being meted out to Palestinians.

He said: “Yes, blockage. In international relations, blockage which you called boycott is a weapon.”

“It is a legitimate weapon of international relations. And therefore, if we feel that one way to pressurize Israel to dance to what the majority are saying globally to the United Nations General Assembly is to boycott the products, so be it. This is a legitimate weapon.”

The President of the Palestine Community in Lagos, Sheikh Ramsy Ibrahim, said in his remarks that Israel has never accepted the existence of the Palestinians and has been oppressing them for 72 years.

He also commended President Buhari for always speaking in support of Palestine in the international community and appreciated Nigerians for their solidarity, calling on them to continue to show their support.

The Coordinator of the Al-Qudus Foundation, Ibadan Branch, Barrister AbdulRasheed Attah spoke as well and said the world cannot shut its eyes to the atrocities being committed by Israel in Palestine if peace is to reign.

He also called for justice from worldwide governments and organizations, stating that Israel has violated over 40 UN resolutions with no repercussions while Saddam Hussein and Muhammed Gadhafi of Libya were severely dealt with when they violated only 4 UN resolutions.

“This is injustice of the highest order. Does it mean Israel is above the law?”.

Other speakers also condemned the inhuman treatment of the Palestinians and called for prayers for the people of Palestine against their oppressors, the Israelis.
