Oyo NYSC Coordinator Charges New Corps Members to Embrace SAED, Self Employment for Wealth Creation

The National Youth Service Corps, Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe has tasked 2022 Batch B Stream ll prospective corps members to embrace Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development for Self sustenance and independence.

Ogbuogebe gave this charge at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin, during the flag-off ceremony of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, during the weekend.

In her address, the state coordinator emphasised on the need for the corps members to be fully empowered with relevant skills so they can become wealth and job creators.

She added that the dearth of white collar jobs in the country makes it more compelling for youth to key into the SAED orogramme.

She stated: “SAED is designed to help corps members acquire necessary skills that will not make them waste time at the labour market in search of paid employment”.

She stated further that the NYSC Scheme has partnered with various financial institutions to give them soft loans and train them properly on how to become successful entrepreneurs.

“I urge you to embrace this golden opportunity and be committed to the programme”, she said.

The state coordinator equally enlightened the prospective corps members on in-camp and post-camp training, urging them to explore the skills that are income generating opportunities available and identify the ones that suit them.

Earlier, the Head SAED on Camp, Mrs Obayelu Roseline said Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme was introduced into the service content of the scheme, so as to reduce the number of graduate youths roaming the street in search of non-existent white collar jobs.

“I can tell you since its inception in 2012, SAED has empowered thousands of young graduates who have passed through the process you have started today.

“We have experts and seasoned facilitators to take you through in-camp and post-camp training” she said.

She enjoined the corps members to choose a skill set suitable for them from the range of Agro-allied, Make up and Gele, Tie and dye, food processing, cosmetology, ICT, Education, bead making, fashion designer amongst others.

Meanwhile, present at the event were, Camp Director, Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola, Heads of Assignments, other Camp Officials, SAED monitoring officers Mr Haruna Mogaji (NDHQ) and Mr Tunde Akogun (RO).
