Oyo OPC States Readiness to Assist Security Agencies

The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Oyo State chapter has condemned the cowardly attack on Igangan, Ibarapa Local Government Oyo State yesterday.

The OPC State Coordinator, Comrade Rotimi Olumo condemned the attack and revealed that the Igangan OPC Chairman made a distress call to him around midnight saying that Fulani Herdsmen had overrun the town.

Comrade Olumo said that since Iskilu Wakili, the notorious Fulani warlord, was arrested by OPC members, innocent citizens had been the target of unceasing attacks and stated that the current security situation in the region is very concerning, especially as the Federal Government has turned a blind eye to the atrocities being committed by the Fulani against Yoruba people in Yorubaland.

He also shared his outrage at how the Asigangan’s palace was burnt by the Fulani herdsmen yesterday and called on the Federal and State governments to fix the situation immediately.

He further called on the government to empower the OPC to engage the Fulani herdsmen in Oyo State saying: “We arrested and handed over Wakili to the police some months ago. I can tell you that up till now three of our members are still in police custody because of Wakili.”

“I can tell you categorically that it is Wakili boys that are behind several kidnapping and other atrocities been committed in Ibarapa land.”

He revealed that he has already instructed all OPC members in Ibarapa to meet any further attacks head-on and appealed to the government to give the Amotekun corps their full support and arm them well so they can tackle the Fulani herdsmen menace properly.

He called on members of the public to share any intelligence they have about the Fulani herdsmen with the OPC because in his words: because “we have all what it takes both physically and spiritually to resist Fulani herdsmen in the Southwest region of the country. The Government should not practice nepotism where the Fulani are shown to be above and superior to other ethnic groups.”

“OPC is ready to assist all security agencies in making sure that peace reigns in all nooks and crannies of Oyo state.”

Lastly, he advised all South-west traditional leaders to throw their support behind the OPC as with their influence, they have vital roles to play to ensure that peace reigns in the South-west region.
