The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday, conducted a primary election to select a new candidate to fill the vacancy created by late Hon Ademola Popoola, who before his death was the lawmaker representing Ibadan Souteast Constituency 2.
The new candidate will now fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming Ibadan South East State Constituency II bye-election.
Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, the deputy national Chairman, PDP stated this in Ibadan, after the party primary yesterday.
According to Arapaja, the primary was witnessed by members of the party, which was won by Hon. Yinka Omikunle.
“Today’s primary produced Hon. Yinka Omikunle as our party’s standard bearer for the rerun election”, he said.
Reacting further to Omikunle’s victory, Arapaja congratulated him, urging party members to work together for the party’s victory.
Arapaja, who is equally from Ibadan South-East LGA, said Yinka Omikunle emerged victorious after a seamless and rancour free primary.
“In line with the INEC guidelines to conduct a rerun election within the stipulted 90 days to fill vacant elective offices, today, our great party, PDP organised a primary election to pick our candidate to replace our departed former representative in constituency II, Ibadan South East Local Government in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Late Hon. Segun Popoola who died some weeks back after a protracted illness”.
