The Oyo State Government has acquired 100 50kva transformers to power the ‘Light Up Oyo’ streetlight project as part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts to fight crime in the state. The transformers are to ensure that all parts of the state are well-lit.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Barrister Temilolu Ashamu shared this while inspecting the transformers at the Ministry’s Agodi premises in Ibadan today.
The Commissioner stated the Governor’s resolve to implement welfare projects that will improve the lives of Oyo State citizens and safeguard their lives and possessions. He also added that economic activities in the state would be boosted as well as economic activities like markets would be motivated to be open for longer with proper lighting available.
In his words: “The transformers will be distributed soon to power the erected street lights to illuminate major towns and cities to curb the criminal activities especially in the urban and rural areas.”
“Some of the areas where these streetlights are installed are markets, parks and places that are hotbeds of criminal activities, we also use this project to aid economic activities of the people, as market activities are prolonged when there is illumination.”
He called on citizens across the state to be vigilant and ensure vandals do not have any way to steal the transformers.
The Commissioner was accompanied during his inspection by the Ministry permanent secretary, Mr. Joel Ajagbe and other directors.
