Oyo state government has declared its readiness to prosecute any unauthorized individual who collects mobile advert tax or tariff from motorists while claiming to be an agent of the State’s Signage and Advertisement Agency, the agency also disclosed that Local government councils have ceased collecting the said charges since the establishment of OYSAA.
Disclosing this in Ibadan, the DG, OYSAA, Hon. Temilola Segun Adibi hinted that the need for commercial vehicle operators in the State and concerned people to remit their Mobile Advertisement Tax into the Agency’s Coffer will help improve the state’s IGR.
Adibi who disclosed this while speaking with Journalists said that the mobile Advert Tax collection has been withdrawn from Local Government Authority since the establishment of Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA)
“The authority to collect Mobile Advert Tax has long been withdrawn from the Local Government Authority since the establishment of Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA) and legal action will be taken against any Local Government Official or unauthorized individual who interrupt the activities of the Agency by mounting illegal tax collection point anywhere in the State.
“The established Law of the State Signage Agency (OYSAA) gave the agency the power to regulate, control and administer everything that has to do with Advertisement all over the State, so those parading themselves as agents of local government and collecting illegal monies should desist or face the wrath of the law,” he warned.
According to him, when an organization buys a mobile sticker in Oyo State for his or her vehicle, the vehicle is entitled to use the sticker across the country, which is why it is called a national programme.
The OYSAA DG maintained that advertisement agencies all over the world were expected to pay fees for displaying their advertisement boards to the coffer of the State government, hence there is need for all the companies concerned to fulfil their obligations to the government.
Again, Mr. Adibi maintained that every mobile sticker user should endeavor to get them from accredited agent of the state Agency
According to him, OYSAA Sticker is a form of tax payment to the government that will also boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State.
