Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has vowed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will deliver a decisive political defeat to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 Osun governorship election and the 2027 Oyo governorship election.
Makinde made this declaration on Wednesday while commissioning projects executed by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osogbo.
He dismissed the ambition of APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to capture Oyo and Osun states as unrealistic.
Ganduje had previously expressed confidence that the APC would dominate the South-West by 2027, following the party’s victory in the recent Ondo governorship election.
However, Makinde described this claim as misguided, suggesting that Ganduje might have been distracted when making the statement.
Makinde praised the people of Osun for embracing the leadership of Governor Adeleke, asserting that they would reject APC’s advances in the upcoming election.
“The people of Osun State have seen the light that Governor Adeleke represents. They will show the APC ‘pepper’ in the next election,” he said.
The governor also lauded Adeleke for delivering on his electoral promises, continuing projects inherited from previous administrations, and prioritizing public welfare. Makinde emphasized the importance of leaders implementing impactful policies to address economic challenges, commending Adeleke for his efforts in this regard.
Makinde called on Osun residents to support Adeleke for another term, adding that both governors had demonstrated true progressive leadership through pro-people policies.
“We are law-abiding people, and our party plays by the rules. But we are resolute and ready to show the APC that the South-West belongs to the PDP,” he added.
Makinde also criticized the current federal structure in Nigeria, advocating for reforms to establish true federalism. He pledged to continue championing this cause alongside Adeleke to ensure better governance.
In his response, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude for Makinde’s visit, describing it as a testament to the strong bond between Osun and Oyo states. Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to completing inherited projects and delivering meaningful development to the people of Osun.
He also acknowledged former Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s contributions to the state.
Both governors reiterated their shared vision of progressive governance, pledging to strengthen the PDP’s influence in the South-West.
