The Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has said that his administration has finalised plans to begin apprehending those who support and sponsor beggars in the state.
Makinde made the announcement on Saturday during an interview on Fresh FM in Ibadan.
He said, “Well, we have moved beggars from the streets to a centre at the Akinyele Local Government.
“We spent huge resources on the centre, and we feed them daily but unfortunately after a few days, they started coming back to the streets.
“We have discovered that some people are their sponsors who are using them to advance their course. They are the ones asking them to go and beg for alms and when they return, they will collect the money from them.
“We have a centre for Internally Displaced Persons in Kishi, headquarters of Irepo Local Government area of Oyo State.
“We will start moving the beggars to the centre if they continue to constitute a menace to the society”, Makinde added.
