A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shina Peller, has declared that his party’s recent bye-election victory in Oyo State is a blueprint for the new system of leadership Nigerians are yearning for.
Peller made the statement on Tuesday while reacting to the win of the PDP candidate, Folajimi Oyekunle, in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election.
The former federal lawmaker described the outcome as a “significant milestone” and a testament to the public trust in Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration. He directly linked the state-level success to the party’s national ambitions.
“Engr. Seyi Makinde’s leadership has inspired confidence among the electorate in Oyo State,” the statement read. “Indeed, the outcome of the Ibadan North bye-election sends a clear message that PDP remains a formidable force… and will be the source of the new system Nigerians have been yearning for by November 2025 when we hold our national convention in Ibadan.”
Peller specifically praised the governor’s ‘Omituntun’ agenda for creating opportunities for young people, noting that the victory of 42-year-old Oyekunle reflects a younger generation of leaders being elevated. He claimed that approximately 70 percent of those serving in Makinde’s government are youths.
According to Peller, the governor is setting a precedent for a new wave of leadership that aligns with the aspirations of a younger Nigeria.
“You can’t create change by fighting the present system; you create change by establishing a new functional system that will make the present one obsolete,” he added.
He urged Nigerians to look toward the PDP’s national convention in Ibadan this November, assuring that the event will produce a leadership that resonates with the people’s expectations.
