The Oyo State Police Command has announced the rescue of four passengers who were abducted in the early hours of Wednesday along the Igbeti–Kishi Road following a swift and coordinated security operation.
The command said armed hoodlums reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and blocked the road, intercepting a commercial bus travelling from Igbeti to Kishi.
During the incident, four passengers were forcefully taken into the surrounding bush by the assailants.
According to the police, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Femi Haruna, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officers in Igbeti and Kishi divisions, alongside relevant tactical teams, to mobilise operational resources to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
A combined security team comprising police operatives, personnel of the Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst and other local security stakeholders subsequently moved to the area and began intensive combing operations in the surrounding forests.
The police said the sustained bush-combing exercise, which lasted several hours, mounted significant pressure on the criminals, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee the scene.
The four victims were later rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their families.
The command commended the bravery and professionalism of the joint security team, noting that cooperation among security agencies remains vital to protecting lives and property across the state.
It also expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for its prompt support and resources mobilised for security operations in the state.
Meanwhile, the police said intensive bush-combing and intelligence-driven operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that would aid ongoing security efforts.
