Seyi Makinde Calls for Calm as Two Policemen killed, Police Station Attacked

Pandemonium broke out on Thursday, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, and in Iseyin as a result of attacks on police stations, Policemen, Customs Posts, Immigration Units, and other government’s facilities by hoodlums in the name of protest.

Area like Iwo-road, Akobo, Ashi-Bodija and other major areas in Ibadan metropolis were in chaos as hoodlums took over the areas and unleashed mayhem and aslo spilled bloods.

According to Oyo Affairs correspondent, two policemen were set ablaze and burnt into ashes by the hoodlums at Iwo-road in Ibadan.

In addition, the Akobo police station in Ibadan has been attacked while the hoodlums have also gained access into the Iseyin Police Headquarters, and carted away arms and ammunition.

According to an eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent on a condition of anonymity, the genuine protesters have put on hold their proposed protest in the town but the hoodlums kick-started theirs in the early hours of Thursday, and launched frontal attacks on Iseyin police station, Nigerian customs service posts and Immigration units in the town.

Upon receiving the sad news, governor Seyi Makinde in the team of heavily armed security personnel, paid on the spot assessment visits to the unrest scenes within the metropolis, especially Iwo-road where the governor himself saw the remains of the two policemen burnt into ashes.

Governor Makinde, while addressing the youths and residents of the state, sued for peace among the #ENDSARS protesters.

The governor appealed strongly for calm with a promise that government would look into their requests and cautioned them never to allow hoodlums to hijack their peaceful protests henceforth.

Governor Makinde also assured the protesters that he would meet with the state Commissioner of Police, CP Joe Enwonwu to take police off the streets and release the just arrested protesters.

As at the time of filing this report, security operatives have rounded up Iwo -road and other unrest areas within the metropolis in a bid to restore peace to the hotspots.
