An Oyo High Court in Ogbomoso has approved a request by the Soun of Ogbomoso Oba Ghandi Olaoye for a stay of execution of the nullification of his appointment while an appeal is pending.
The court nullified Oba Olaoye’s appointment as the Soun due to a procedural flaw in his nomination. However, Justice Kareem Adedokun directed all parties to maintain the status quo ante until the appeal is heard and determined.
Oba Olaoye, who was installed on September 8, 2023, was removed from his position on October 25 due to an alleged breach of the nomination process. The monarch and the State Government, which approved the nomination, have both filed appeals against the decision.
The appeal hearing has not yet begun, but with the stay of execution motion granted, Oba Olaoye’s reign is back on track. He is expected to return from overseas soon, where he has been due to ongoing renovations at the palace.
