Suspected herdsmen invade Ibarapa, kill farmer.

Ibarapa Local Government Area, Oyo state was again thrown into turmoil after the brutal murder of a 56-year-old farmer, Muftau Babarinde.

According to the Vanguard sources, Babarinde was attacked on his way back home from the farm and was brutally hacked to death by suspected Fulani herdsmen at Orita Merin, Konko village in Ibarapa North LGA.

Babarinde who by all accounts, was very popular in the area, had earlier gone to feed his laborers at the farm and was returning home around 7pm on Wednesday when the hoodlums attacked him and brutally killed him.

While some residents of the area could not say what was responsible for the killing of the farmer, there were conflicting accounts as other people were saying the people responsible for his death were those herdsmen pursued from the community after the OPC and local vigilantes stormed the notorious kingpin, Iskilu Wakili’s residence and apprehended him in February.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, told the Vanguard that more information would be revealed now that the matter is being investigated.

The Convener, Igangan Development Advocates, Oladiran Oladokun confirmed the killing saying that the late Babarinde had been killed by suspected herdsmen, panicking Ibarapa residents and further blamed the government and security agents for failing the people of the region.

He said: “This has shown to the public we don’t have any security again. The government and security agencies have failed us. We can’t sleep with our two eyes closed any longer.”
