Three Oyo Communities Benefit From FG Rural Infrastructure Projects

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) with the support of the Federal government, has inaugurated some of its rural infrastructure projects in some communities in Oyo state.

The projects inaugurated include; mini water treatment plant, 1.5 km asphaltic road constructed and solar powered street lights installation, all in Adeoje/Kuola community in Oluyole local government area, Ibadan.

Other projects are solar powered borehole with overhead tanks in Amo, installed in Aawe community, Afijio local government area, near Oyo town.

Also, in Oyo town, 44 units solar street lights were installed at Akesan community while solar powered borehole was installed at Parakoyi community.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Zonal Director, FMARD, Mrs. Omolara Oguntuyi, on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mahmood Abubakar, inaugurated the mini water treatment plant, the 1.5 km asphaltic road and the solar powered street lights in Adeoje/Kuola community.

It was gathered that Dr. Florence Kakulu, the FMARD Oyo State Coordinator, inaugurated the other projects in Aawe, Parakoyi and Akesan communities.

Oguntuyi, in her remarks, said that the federal government prioritised provision of infrastructure in rural areas, which was the reason FMARD embarked on projects in rural communities across the country.

She explained that federal government was constructing rural roads across the country to stop migration of people to the urban centres and also to ease the burden of transporting farm produce from rural communities.

The zonal coordinator expressed satisfaction with the quality of FMARD projects across the Southwest states and thanked the state coordinators in the zone, for not compromising on standard of the work with the contractors handling the projects.

She further admonished the benefitting communities to ensure that the projects were maintained, while also hinting that a monitoring unit had been constituted to visit the project sites from time to time, to see that the infastruture were put to good use.

On her part, Dr. Kakulu while inaugurating projects in Aawe, Parakoyi and Akesan communities said that the boreholes would provide sustainable access to safe drinking water for the benefitting communities.

She added that the solar street lights at Akesan community would enhance security of the area.

She therefore tasked residents of the communities to ensure good maintenance of the boreholes and the street lights, so that they would last well.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, Mr. Anthony Ebuka, from Adeoje/Kunola community, appreciated the Federal Government for choosing them as recipients of the laudable projects.

Ebuka testified that the Federal Government through FMARD had executed social infrastructure projects in various communities which had enhanced the lives of the residents in the communities.

Also, Mr. Friday Agwu of Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery, Aawe, where one of the boreholes was sunk, appreciated the Federal Government for the initiative.

While appraising how the boreholes and the solar streetlight projects would benefit the communities, Agwu used the opportunity to appeal to the FMARD to continue to install projects, that would impact positively on the lives of rural dwellers.
