Two Dead, Two Missing as Flood Wrecks Havoc in Ibadan

No fewer than two people have been reported dead as a result of floods that ravaged some parts of Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Tuesday.

It was gathered that some parts of Oluyole and Ibadan South West local government areas were affected by heavy floods on Wednesday leading to the destruction of property worth millions of naira.

The South West Zonal Coordinator of the Nigeria Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Olanrewaju Kadiri, in a statement made this development known.

The statement reads; “Following the heavy downpour that led to a flash flood in Ibadan South-West and Oluyole local government areas of Oyo State, which occurred on 24th September 2024, the NEMA South West Zonal Office, in collaboration with Oyo SEMA and Nigeria Red Cross Society, carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the affected communities.

“The flood disaster affected residential buildings, shops and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, and many persons were also displaced. Unfortunately, two deaths were recorded while two persons are still missing.”

Oyo Affairs had reported that in a proactive measure to avert flood disasters, Oyo State Government has declared that it has desilted over One Hundred and Fifty Three Kilometers, 153.11km, of blocked drainages and culverts along major roads in the Ibadan metropolis.
