Ajayi Crowther University situated in Oyo State announced the arrest of two members of its vigilante group on Saturday for allegedly raping a female student.
The university’s management, in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi, confirmed that an internal panel of inquiry has been established to investigate the allegation.
Atoyebi stated that the suspects have been handed over to the police and promised severe penalties for anyone found guilty after a thorough investigation. He assured all stakeholders that the institution would not tolerate any misconduct that could tarnish its reputation.
As stated in the statement, “The management of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, received a report of an alleged rape of one of our female students on Thursday, May 9, 2024, by two members of our vigilance group. The management promptly handed over the two individuals alleged to have committed the crime to the police, while the university has established its own internal panel of inquiry to investigate the allegation. The management wishes to assure all stakeholders that ACU will not tolerate any act of misconduct capable of tarnishing its enviable image. Raising Godly intellectuals is our primary goal in ACU, and we will not allow any act of misconduct capable of diverting our attention from our goal. Heavy penalties await anyone found culpable after our thorough investigation.”
