Residents in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday staged a protest, demanding justice for an Amotekun personnel who was arrested and accused of the murder of a Fulani man in the local government area.
In a viral video circulating online, the protesters, who were mostly old men and women, bemoaned the spate of insecurity challenges from robbers suspected to be Fulani men, who rob and hijack motorcycles at Baale Agbe road in Atiba Division, Oyo State while demanding for the release of an Amotekun personnel arrested for the murder of an armed robber.
Reports revealed that the Amotekun personnel was passing through the area on a motorcycle, when he sighted the armed robbers who were operating.
The robbers approached him to hijack his motorcycle, but didn’t know that the man on the bike was an Amotekun personnel.
It was gathered that after realising he was an Amotekun personnel, they wanted to collect his gun to harm him but when dragging the gun with the Amotekun personnel, a bullet was released and hit one of the armed robbers who was a Fulani man and he died on the spot.
Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from Atiba Division arrived later and arrested the Amotekun personnel accusing him of murder.
