Yoruba Nation Agitator, Sunday Igboho Reportedly Arrested in Cotonou


Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a popular Yoruba nation agitator, was reportedly arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, by security personnel.


Igboho is believed to have been apprehended Monday night after fleeing Nigeria to avoid being apprehended by the country’s secret police.


According to the punch newspaper, Mr. Adeyemo had finalised arrangements to surreptitiously flee Nigeria through Cotonou and was on his way to Germany, according to a person familiar with his departure from Nigeria.



However, he was apprehended by security forces in a nearby country.



“Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou,” according to another source familiar with the event. He was taken into custody approximately an hour ago.”



“He was supposed to travel to Germany through Cotonou this night. He wanted to leave Africa through Cotonou. He was arrested by security operatives in Cotonou.”



“They are planning to bring him back to Nigeria.”



It will be recalled that Igboho was proclaimed sought by the Department of State Services following a deadly midnight raid on his home in Ibadan’s Soka neighborhood.
