Youths Set to Protest Abandoned Oyo-Ogbomoso Highway Project

A Youth Coalition in Ogbomoso has revealed plana to embark on a peaceful demonstration over the neglect of the Oyo-Ogbomoso express road by the Federal Government.

According to the group, the protest which is slated for today, Saturday, would start hold between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm at Takie Junction, Ogbomoso.

This development made known in a statement shared with newsmen by one of the coordinators of the protest tagged #OperationFixOgbomosoRoadNow, Peter Adekunle.

The youths said the demonstration was to alert authorities to the worsening condition of the road.

It was gathered that the road had recorded a series of accidents and deaths because of its dilapidated state.

The road links the South to the North.

According to the youths, a series of letters had been written to the concerned authorities, but nothing had yet been done.

The statement partly read, “These past few weeks have been the worst in the history of the road conditions. About 20 people died, and there has been a gridlock of heavy-duty vehicles, with a series of goods and animal deaths.

“Most vehicles take about five days for a 15 km journey, and this has not only impaired the economy of the city but is making life unbearable for us.”
