The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Ibadan chapter on Tuesday, hosted a quiz competition for female secondary school students in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
Speaking about the competition in Ibadan, the Southwest Coordinator of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Mojirade Oloruntoba, said it was one of the ideas targeted at encouraging the girl child in Nigeria.
Oloruntoba said, “October 11th is a day set aside to celebrate the girl child across the globe. This is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, which seeks to achieve gender equality across the world by year 2030. We were supposed to have celebrated it since last month, but it was postponed till today because of a particular reason.”
She noted that the quiz competition, which is specifically designed for female secondary school students, featured students across Ibadan.
She therefore encouraged the Nigerian girl child to be tenacious in order to become whatsoever they want to be in life.
“I want to encourage the girl child to imbibe the right attitude, as it determines their position in life. They should have a good knowledge and understanding of modern technology as what a man can do, a woman can do better. Whatever their male counterparts achieve, they can achieve better and they can become whatsoever they want to become as there is no limit to how far they can go in life.”
