Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan on Wednesday defeated Kwara United FC of Ilorin, 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
Having failed to win in their last 3 fixtures, the Oluyole Warriors went into the NPFL matchday eight clash against their long time rivals, hoping for a change of fortune, and came out victorious with a late goal.
The Stars have been searching for victory after their matchday four 1-0 triumph over Katsina United, a win that has been followed by losses on the road to Enyimba FC and Niger Tornadoes and a home draw against Southwest neighbours, Sunshine Stars of Akure.
After a tough battle by both sides in the first half of the match, the Afonja Warriors were finally able to breach Oluyole’s defence with a goal in the 55th minute.
The Oluyole Warriors equalised in the 76th and it seems as if the Afonja Warriors were going home with a point from Ibadan.
However, a late goal in the 93rd minute saw the Ibadan stars go home with 3 points.
Speaking after the match, the Oluyole warriors attributed their win to the desire to compensate their fans for their unwavering support and for their late General Manager, Rasheed Balogun, who died last Thursday.
Meanwhile, players of both sides wore black armbands, while a minute silence was be observed in the 70th minute of the match, in honour of the late 3SC General Manager, Rasheed Balogun.
