6 Key Things to Know About the new Acting CJN, Olukayode Ariwoola

Sequel to the sudden resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad from the exalted Judicial position, Oyo-Born Justice Olukayode Ariwoola will be sworn-in as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

CJN’s spokesperson, Ahuraka Isah, confirmed the resignation of his principal on Monday morning.

Justice Muhammad was said to have resigned his appointment as the head of the nation’s judiciary on health grounds.

It would be recalled that the CJN was last week accused of corruption and professional misconduct by 14 of his brother Justices of the apex court.

Justice Muhammad was said to have resigned on Sunday, but the news of his resignation became public this morning.

If Ariwoola eventually takes over, he is billed to leave the Judicial service in 2028.

Below are six things to know about him:

1. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola was born on August 22, 1954.

2. He obtained a law degree (LL.B) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).

3. He hails from Iseyin, in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo state.

4. Before becoming a Justice of the Supreme Court, Ariwoola was appointed a judge of the Oyo State High Court in 1992 and later made a Justice of the Court of Appeal in November 2005.

5. On November 22, 2011, he was appointed to the bench of the Supreme Court of Nigeria as Justice.
