As part of its efforts to promote sports development in Oyo State, Lagelu FM in Ibadan will be hosting 69 schools in the state at the Lagelu FM Inter-Secondary School Relay Race
The General Manager (operations), Tunde Olawuwo who disclosed this at a press briefing to flag off the 2022 inter-secondary school relay race, hinted that this year’s edition would be held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba with about 69 public and private secondary schools to participate
According to Olawuwo, the major event would begin on Tuesday, November 15 with a screening and accreditation exercise and end on November 17 with winners being announced in the various categories of 4 X 100, 4 X 200 male and female as well as mixed race.
While insisting that the competition would not recycle old talent but geared towards the discovery of new talent below age 14, Olawuwo equally noted that Lagelu FM has begun conceiving plans towards the establishment of a special hall of fame for its inter-secondary relay race ambassadors to regularly provide mentorship and incentivize them.
In his remarks, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Seun Fakorede who was represented by Director for Sports Administration, Mrs Bisi Adegoke commended Lagelu FM for contributing to sports development in the state, adding that the current administration would not relent in giving priority to sporting activities as a unique aspect of social life and empowerment tool for economic emancipation of youths.
Corporate partners, MultiChoice Nigeria, represented by its Regional Customer Head for the South West, Rotimi Adeyeye, and the General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Gboyega Makinde, unanimously expressed concerns about the need to separate athletic talents who would make Nigeria proud internationally and praised LageluFm for its effective corporate social responsibility in identifying new talents in Oyo State.
