We Will Continue to Commit Our Resources to Education Because That’s Where Our Future Lies — Makinde

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has reemphasised his administration’s commitment to improving the educational sector of the state, noting that the sector is the foundation for a glorious future for the state.

The Governor made this known during his speech at the 2022 Christmas Carol Service, and Nine Lessons held on Sunday at the Remembrance Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan.

Speaking on his administration’s achievements in the educational sector, the Governor noted that his administration has made historical feats and would continue to commit resources to the educational sector.

He said: “Three days ago, I went to Abuja to present to NUC the plan for the conversion and upgrade of Emma to a University of Education.

“I expected that we would make a presentation, and then they would ask us to come back for approval, but as we were making the presentation, they brought out the letter and said we had already been approved.

“Now, in Oyo State, we have a State-owned conventional university and two specialised universities.

“LAUTECH in Ogbomoso with a campus in Iseyin, and now we have Emmanuel

Alayande in Oyo and Technical University in Ibadan.

“Some people said we would not be able to fund LAUTECH when we decided to get sole ownership, well, today, we haven’t owed anyone. Backlog of saltines we met we have paid. Commitment to Osun State, we have paid about 50%.

“We will continue to commit our resources to the educational sector because that’s where our future lies for us. For the next 20 to 40 years, we have made the foundation to produce human resource requirements for Oyo State.

“So under Omituntun2.0, the same focus but adding one or two additions. Our expansion of the economy won’t just be through Agribusiness. We will expand our economy through tourism and mineral development”, the Governor added.
